Glossary

If you do not know the word, you will either freeze or invent. Neither is allowed. Search it here.

Documents

AddendumA dated change to the bid documents.
If you estimate without the latest addendum, you estimated a different job. Freeze the set and list addenda on the header sheet.
09 67 00CSI section for fluid-applied flooring.
Start here in the project manual, then hunt related sections and owner standards.
Division 01General requirements.
Submittal process, substitutions, hours, closeout, extras. Read it or get surprised by procedure.
'Or equal'Substitution language in a spec.
Equals are submitted, not assumed. Admin never grants equals on the phone.
RFIRequest for information.
One question, document conflict, proposed path, need-by date. Log it.
Shop drawingOur detail of how we will build a condition.
Cove at pads, trenches, terminations. No drawing, no application on complex details.
SubmittalOur proposed products/details for approval.
Before we buy or install. Log stamps. Read 'approved as noted.'
SubstitutionA product that is not what was specified.
A process, not a favor. Capture, route, paper. Never yes-on-Friday.
TakeoffMeasured quantities from drawings.
SF, LF, EA with sources. Admin may highlight; estimating owns the number that goes on the bid.

Money

AIA-style billing / SOVProgress bill against a schedule of values.
Some GCs want G702/G703 format. Mirror the form they pay. Percent complete must be defensible from dailies and walks.
ExclusionsWhat our price does not include.
Demo, moisture mitigation, moving equipment, overtime, etc. If it is not written, they will assume it is in.
Purchase orderBuyer's authorization to spend.
Read terms. Match numbers on invoices. No job number on a PO we issue is a defect.
RetainageHeld portion of payment.
Track as receivable. Closeout paper often unlocks it.
ACH / wireElectronic payment methods.
Get the ACH form into the customer's vendor file at award. Large deposits and tight material buys move by wire. Log every payment the same day.
Schedule of valuesHow the contract price is broken into billable lines.
Extras get their own lines. Burying them is how they vanish.
T&MTime and materials.
Needs daily tickets signed by someone with authority. No ticket, no invoice strength.
Three-way matchPO + receiving + invoice.
No match, no pay. Uncoded spend is stolen margin.
Due Upon CompletionHouse invoice terms. Not Net 30.
Every Maverick invoice is Due Upon Completion unless Eric approved a written contract exception. Never print Net 30 or Net 15 as a courtesy. SOP 4.12.
DSO (admin target)Days sales outstanding — admin KPI.
Admin target is ≤ 38 days. Company scorecard warning band is 46–60 days. Collections cadence is 30 / 60 / 90. Untracked retainage is unpaid work.

Closeout

As-builtRecord of what was actually installed.
Colors by room, extra areas, drain work, cove heights that changed by RFI. Closeout needs this. Memory is not an as-built.
Attic stockSpare material left with the owner.
Specified extra kits or chips. Get a signed receipt. It is not crew souvenirs.
Punch listFix list at substantial completion.
Not the same as closeout. Punch is work. Closeout is the packet.
WarrantyWritten promise about the installed system.
Manufacturer and installer forms, correct names, as-installed system. Do not promise years we do not have.

Systems

BroadcastFlake or quartz thrown into wet resin.
Creates texture and hide. Rejection, back-roll, and topcoat are part of the system — not a decoration afterthought.
Integral coveFloor coating turned up the wall in a radius.
Hygienic detail. Not stick-on vinyl base. Height, radius, and termination are specified. Shop-draw unusual conditions.
DFT / milsDry film thickness.
How thick the coating is after cure. Specified in mils. You do not guess a number on the phone.
ESD / conductive floorElectrostatic dissipative system.
Electronics and certain manufacturing. Testing and grounding details. Not 'close enough gray epoxy.'
MilOne thousandth of an inch.
Coating thickness unit. 20 mils is not 'about 20.' Do not convert casually on the phone.
MMAMethyl methacrylate — very fast cure.
Odor, skilled crew, special controls. Not a casual substitute for epoxy.
PolyasparticFast urethane-family topcoat.
UV stable, quick return, dew-point and recoat windows matter. Isocyanate awareness.
Vinyl ester / novolacAggressive chemical / containment systems.
Specialized install and QA, not 'gray epoxy, thicker.' No validated Maverick SKU yet: escalate to Eric before quoting or submitting.
Urethane cementHeavy-duty washdown / thermal-shock system.
Kitchens, food, wet process. Drains and moisture details are the job.

Legal

Certified payrollPublic-work wage report, usually weekly.
Classifications and rates must match. Catch prevailing wage at bid/award, not at invoice.
Change order (CO)Executed change to price, time, or scope.
A PCO is a proposal. A CO is signed. Do not work extras on a PCO unless Eric accepts that risk in writing.
COICertificate of insurance.
Issued by the broker. Never edited in-house. Additional insured names must match the contract. Calendar expirations.
First furnishingFirst date we provided labor or material.
Starts lien/notice clocks in many states including Michigan. Log it. Do not guess later.
Construction lienProperty right to secure payment.
Michigan has strict notice and timing rules. Admin owns the calendar; counsel and Eric own the filing decision.
Lump sumOne price for specified scope.
Extras must be papered. Quantity growth is our problem unless documents change.
PCOPotential change order.
Our priced proposal. Not authorization to proceed.
Contractor's pollution liabilityInsurance for chemical work.
GL is not enough for resins/solvents. Many portals will reject a coatings contractor without it.
Prevailing wageMandated wages on many public jobs.
Flag at intake. Coordinate with payroll before hour one.
Unit priceContract by SF/LF/EA rates.
Quantities must be agreed. Measure and sign. Do not mix units.
Lien waiverDocument giving up lien rights, usually against payment.
Conditional vs unconditional matters. Never sign away rights for a promise. Follow Eric's process.
Verbal extraUnpapered added scope asked on the slab or in a text.
Capture. Do not mobilize. PCO. Written proceed. Then work. A casual yes is a change order you gave away.

Field

CSPConcrete Surface Profile.
The roughness we create so resin can grab. Maverick defaults: CSP 3–4 for thin-film coatings, CSP 5–6 for broadcast, slurry, and mortar systems. Prep is the job.
Dew pointTemperature where moisture condenses on the slab.
If the slab is not at least 5°F above dew point, it is a stop-work condition. Record it on the daily.
LaitanceWeak, dusty skin on new concrete.
Must be removed mechanically. Coating over it delaminates.
Moisture testing (F2170 etc.)Measures vapor in/through the slab.
ASTM F2170 is in-situ RH, common in specs. High readings stop applications. File locations and photos of the display.
Surface preparationMechanical work that makes resin stick.
Shot blast, grind, repair. The most common failure point. Never optional.
Shot blastSteel shot thrown at the slab to profile it.
Dust-controlled method of prep. Containment matters in plants.

People

GCGeneral contractor.
Often our contract party even when the plant is the end user. Follow the chain unless the contract is owner-direct.
Nick HoltonInsurance broker — Diversified Insurance Group.
Issues every COI. nickh@wediginsurance.com, CC MichelleG@wediginsurance.com. 24-hour turnaround. Admin never edits a certificate. Named insured address is Taylor HQ.

Safety

HazComHazard communication.
Labels, SDS, training. Admin keeps current SDS packs on site and in the file.
IsocyanatesChemistry in some urethanes/polyaspartics.
Exposure controls. Not a casual 'it doesn't smell bad.' Respect the SDS.
JHA / JSAJob hazard analysis.
Task-level risks and controls. Dated, in the job file, with toolbox talks.
OSHA 10 / 30Construction safety training cards.
Calendar expirations. Some sites will turn people away without them.
SDSSafety Data Sheet.
Current year, every product, on site and in file. Auditors and EHS will ask.
SilicaDust from cutting/grinding concrete.
Shrouds, vacs, controls. Not heroic sweeping.
Mix zoneWhere resin is proportioned and the wet edge lives.
A hazardous operation. Visitors, sales, and owners do not walk it. Anyone in a Maverick shirt can stop a visitor or an application.
Stop workAuthority to freeze mix, place, or grind.
Safety, dew point, spec conflict, wrong product, visitor in the mix. You will not be punished for a good stop.

Verticals

ICRA / ILSMInfection control / interim life safety measures.
Hospital occupied-work planning. Flag at bid. Barriers, odor, paths, and hours are scope.
SkydrolAggressive aviation hydraulic fluid.
Eats the wrong coating. Hangar and aviation-adjacent work needs the right chemical system.

Materials

Kit / mixProportioned set of resin components.
POs should match kits to SF at the specified thickness plus waste. Short kits are emergencies.

Quality

Lot / batch numberManufacturer identity of a kit.
Pharma and some auto QA will ask. Photograph as drums open. Never invent.
MockupA specified sample area on site.
Often becomes the standard of acceptance. Schedule it. Protect it. Photograph it.
NACE / AMPPCoating inspector culture and certs.
Profile, cleanliness, ambient conditions, DFT. File numbers as taken. Do not 'clean them up.'

Systems of record

Zoho CRMOur sales and lead system of record.
If it is not in Zoho, it is a rumor. Stages, follow-ups, quote PDFs, win/loss reasons.
Zoho Books (not built)Not a Maverick system of record.
Zoho Books is NOT BUILT. Never draft a step that reads from or writes to Books. Invoicing = branded DOCX clone. Billing ledger = SOV-Billing-Tracker in the project folder. AR = OneDrive aging tracker. CRM Deal notes for milestones.

Sales

Qualify (sales)Who / where / what / when / next — before anyone prices.
If it is not in Zoho it is a rumor. Sales does not freelance price, Net 30, or a Monday start.

Crew

Own the EquipmentStrap it, clean it, put it back — every roll.
Prep equipment and vac are $250,000+ on a trailer. Short hop is not an exemption. An unstrapped ~$9k vac took a 10-inch dent; barrel ~$1,400. Anyone can stop a truck that is not tied.
Ownership standardTook it out → put it back. Dirty → clean it. Can fall → strap it.
Simple on purpose — the same rule on day one and in year twenty. Seniority is not a pass. After C03, not knowing is a choice.
Leave-behindWhat the plant sees when we go — dock, edges, trash, tape.
Cleanup is part of the install. The last 5% (cove, drains, cut-in, holidays) is what they live with. Lead last out. Photo on high-profile sites.
