MavSeal — the urethane sealer and topcoat line

The aliphatic sealers that deliver final gloss, chemical resistance, and UV stability: UPA polyaspartic, UHD, HWU, RCU rapid-cure, HSU high-solids, and HTU wear-filled satin. Cure speed and film thickness are where these products are won or lost.

  • Match the sealer to the wear, chemical, and return-to-service driver
  • Set polyaspartic cure speed against ambient humidity
  • Know the film-thickness ceilings that cause blistering when ignored

The last coat is the one the customer touches

MavSeal is Maverick's urethane sealer and topcoat line — the aliphatic products that go on last, over a MavCoat coating or directly over a MavClad or MavCrete floor. Aliphatic means UV-stable — it will not yellow the way an epoxy does in daylight. These products deliver the final gloss, the chemical resistance, and the return-to-service time the customer actually experiences. Like MavCoat, every MavSeal ships clear and is pigmented with MavTints. Two variables decide most MavSeal conversations: how fast the floor has to reopen, and how hard it will be used.

The MavSeal line — know these cold

ProductWhat it isThe line that matters
MavSeal UPAPolyaspartic topcoatShips in slow, medium, and fast cure so the crew can dial pot life and return-to-service to conditions. Cure is humidity-accelerated.
MavSeal RCURapid-cure aliphatic polyasparticPot life 13 minutes at 72°F. Mixed and spread inside a very narrow window. On the floor it cures like a polyaspartic — UV-stable, non-yellowing, rapid return to service.
MavSeal HWUHigh-wear urethane, thin sealerUsed over an already-sealed system to boost abrasion resistance on refurbishment and recoat work — not the topcoat over a fresh flake broadcast.
MavSeal UHDHeavy-duty urethane topcoatHigh-wear industrial where UV stability and chemical resistance both matter.
MavSeal HSUHigh-solids aliphatic polyurethane, ~92% solidsNear-zero VOC at 0.12 lb/gal (16 g/L). Warehouses, hangars, healthcare, animal-holding areas. Not for exterior or immersion.
MavSeal HTU3-component satin aliphatic urethaneWear Filler into Part B, then Part A. The filler drives Taber abrasion to 20 mg — best in the line. COF wet 0.70. Maximum 3–4 mils wet per coat.

Why the mil ceiling on a urethane topcoat is real
RIGHT — 3–4 mils, evenWRONG — piled on thicktight film — cures hard, holds its ratingfoam, blisters, haze — and a failed ratingHTU + UHD max 3–4 mils · HWU 2–3 · ESD 2–3Two thin coats beat one thick one. Every time.

Say it out loud, then check yourself

  1. 01
Why does UPA cure three to four times faster in high humidity?

Atmospheric moisture participates in the isocyanate-polyaspartic ester reaction that builds the film. As relative humidity climbs, more available water accelerates the crosslink — so working time collapses and you dial back to the slow cure to protect it.

  2. 02
Give the three-line decision matrix: HWU vs UHD vs UPA.

HWU — thin sealer over an already-sealed system; boosts abrasion resistance on refurbishment and recoat work. UHD — heavy-duty urethane topcoat for high-wear industrial where UV stability and chemical resistance both matter. UPA — polyaspartic for the fastest return to service where next-day open is the driver.

  3. 03
RCU mixed at 9 a.m., crew pulled away, back at 2 p.m. What is in the bucket?

Pot life is 13 minutes. Five hours later the material has hard-cured and the pail is a total loss. Dispose of it properly, do not try to salvage or thin it, and mix a fresh kit when the crew is actually on the surface. RCU is not a bucket you come back to.

  4. 04
What fails when HTU goes on heavier than 4 mils?

It blisters or bubbles. HTU is a moisture-cure aliphatic urethane — a thick film off-gasses CO₂ from the isocyanate and water reaction faster than the film can release it, so bubbles form under the surface. The PDS is explicit: do not exceed 4 mils wet per coat. Multiple thin coats beat one heavy coat.

  • Not this

It's humid, so run the fast cure and beat the weather.

    This

High humidity already accelerates the cure. Spec the slow cure to preserve working time.

  • Not this

HWU is the topcoat over that new flake floor.

    This

HWU is a thin sealer over an already-sealed system. A fresh flake broadcast is sealed per the system spec — typically UPA.

Takeaways

  • Polyaspartic cure is humidity-accelerated — high RH means the SLOW cure, not the fast one.
  • MavSeal RCU has a 13-minute pot life at 72°F. A bucket left five hours is a total loss, not a salvage job.
  • MavSeal HTU is three components and maxes at 3–4 mils wet per coat. Heavier blisters.
